From the creation of a show by an artistic team to the implementation of a festival in a village, from the management of a radio station to the running of a music or fine arts venue, from the support of digital practices to the development of European cooperation projects… the multitude of artistic and cultural initiatives of the social and solidarity economy develops very varied activities. They reflect the contemporary aspiration to take part in artistic and cultural life, as manifested more broadly by the expansion of cultural associations, which numbered 7,200 in 1959 and now more than 267,000.  According to the law on the social and solidarity economy, they also make up a large part of the professional cultural sector.

In view of this dynamic, we would like to attempt to give an interpretation of a will expressed through the construction of paths in the cultural field which is articulated with the dimension of social and solidarity economy (in particular associative). We will try to bear witness to the way in which the capacity of people to “do and create together”, processes of action around cultural issues, draws new horizons of emancipation.
