From 2 to 8 June 2025, the sixth edition of the Climate Week took place, offering over a hundred events in dozens of towns and villages across the Czech Republic. The series of events was coordinated by the Ecumenical Academy with the support of the Climate Coalition. But the Climate Week does not end on 8 June; other side events are still taking place across the country, and the Ecumenical Academy is gradually releasing podcasts and webinars on systemic changes to address the climate crisis.

This year’s Climate Week has once again shown that environmental issues are finding resonance across the country, from large cities to small communities. A total of 108 events of various kinds were organised by 67 organisations, cities, associations, libraries and universities. The Climate Week refers to a nationwide series of events that seeks to bring the topic of climate change closer to the public.

The opening evening of this year’s Climate Week took place on Monday 2 June at the Central Library in Prague under the title The Climate of the Soul: an evening of words, emotions and climate. The first part of the event featured public readings by artists associated with the Host publishing house: psychotherapist Jitka Holasová, writer Viktoria Hanišová, and poet Radek Štěpánek (Hezké počasí). The readings were accompanied by a debate on the effects of climate change on the soul and the role of art in alleviating climate sadness. The second part of the evening was thematically continued by the theatre improv troupe Whales.

Then we moved on to the Broumov region, where the Ecumenical Academy in cooperation with local organizations co-organized the Czech-Polish Friendship Bike Ride program. And the program was really rich. In addition to the bike ride itself, visitors could enjoy an upcycling workshop, two concerts, a traffic playground and a debate, which was attended by representatives of organizations and informal groups that organized some kind of climate protection activity in the Broumov region during the Climate Week.

Both events were made possible thanks to the funding of Climate Week by the European Union under the National Recovery Plan and also thanks to the financial support of the European Union under the YOU(th) Care For Change project.
