The conference entitled “The solidarity economy in Turkey: the first encounters between actors and researchers” acknowledge that solidarity economy is rooted and based on the practices of the actors who conceive it, the theory being built in dialogue with them. Therefore, through this event, we seek to give a voice to actors in various workshops and to foster a real dialogue with academics around the issues they identify, to better understand the plural forms of economic alternatives in Turkey. It is through these workshops and this method to participate in the production of common knowledge around solidarity alternatives. It is an invitation to establish bridges, mutual knowledge, links which could lead to various projects and future meetings. It should make it possible to deepen a shared knowledge of practices and reflections around the solidarity economy in Turkey, and to enter into dialogue with other players and researchers in the European area. The conference is open to anyone interested in the challenges of developing the solidarity economy.
The solidarity economy in Turkey : first meetings between actors and researchers
14 December 2020 – 9.30 am – 5.45 pm – online
Languages: Turkish / translation into French
The international colloquium “Solidarity economy in Turkey: first meetings between actors and researchers” organised by Galatasray University under the responsibility of Olivier Gajac, Selin Pelek, Cem Özatalay and Cemil Yıldızcan will bring together Turkish initiatives and researchers to exchange on current events in the solidarity economy in Turkey.
This day of meetings built in collaboration with Jean-Louis Laville (CNAM and FMSH, scientific committee of RIPESS Europe) and Laura Aufrère (University Sorbonne Paris Nord and RIPESS Europe) should allow to deepen a shared knowledge of practices and reflections around the solidarity economy.
The different workshops are organised on the principle of dialogue, based on presentations made by the actors of their activities, sharing their analyses of the identified issues, which will be led by academics from Galatasaray University, ODTÛ University and Doḡus University. Short food circuits, local cooperatives, self-help groups, popular universities: the day will bring together solidarity alternatives from Turkey in their diversity.
With the contribution of the researchers invited to the final round table, Aslıhan Aykaç from the University of Ege, Fikret Adaman from the University Boḡazici and the contribution of Jean-Louis Laville, the aim will be to identify common issues and particularities: it is an invitation to respond to the epistemological challenges of the social and solidarity economy in Turkey and to establish inter-knowledge that could lead to different projects and future meetings.
This day should also provide an opportunity to enter into dialogue with other actors and researchers from the European area. Laura Aufrère, doctoral student, member of the coordination committee and the scientific committee of RIPESS Europe (Intercontinental Network for the Promotion of the Social Solidarity Economy) will propose avenues for cooperation in this respect at the end of the day.
Representatives of initiatives in Turkey, members of the RIPESS network are invited to participate in the exchanges, as well as Turkish researchers and/or members of the scientific committee of the network and students who will be able to follow the day and speak. The conference is open to anyone interested in the challenges of solidarity economy development.
We warmly thank Galatasaray University and the institutional partners and contributors, the Consortium and the French Institute of Turkey.
