“People and the Planet before Profits”: the global call to action mobilizes thousands of people around the world to stop “trade and investment deals that threaten our democratic rights, food sovereignty, jobs and the environment. Thousands of such agreements already exist around the globe; others are currently being negotiated or ratified. TTIP, TPP, TiSA and CETA are some examples. On the Global Day of Action we are speaking out against agreements that affect us directly but we are also raising awareness of similar agreements in other parts of the world that are driven by a similar agenda of continuous deregulation and liberalisation”.
The Global Trade Day follows the International Day of Peasant and Farmer Struggle against Transnational Companies and Free Trade Agreements (17 April 2015). These so-called free trade agreements are a real threat also for Food Sovereignty and Social Solidarity Economy and need to be stopped.
