RIPESS Europe (R\u00e9seau Intercontinental de Promotion de l\u2019\u00c9conomie Sociale Solidaire \u2013 Europe) is a network that promotes the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) across Europe. It was officially founded in Barcelona in 2011, as the European regional branch of RIPESS Intercontinental, a global network established in 1997.<\/p>\n

It brings together continental associations of actors and networks aiming<\/strong> to build a shared vision of SSE based on t<\/strong>heir socio-economic experiences in the field: a political model that guarantees fundamental human rights, democracy\u00a0 and a space for social, economic and ecological transformation.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nRIPESS Europe - Solidarity Economy Europe<\/strong>, was born from the synergy produced by the meetings of the Globalisation of Solidarity organised by the intercontinental network RIPESS Intercontinental, the first of which took place in Lima in 1997. The 4th International Forum of \"Globalisation of Solidarity\", Lux'09, which took place in Schifflange in April 2009, led to the launching of a dynamic by establishing trust and shared-knowledge between networks of the social and solidarity economy (SSE) at continental and intercontinental levels. During this meeting, Eric Lavilluni\u00e8re (INEES) and Christine Gent (WFTO) initiated the structuring of a European RIPESS platform.\r\n\r\nIn Barcelona, in 2011, RIPESS Europe was born. 2011 \u2013 Founding in Barcelona
RIPESS Europe was created during a continental meeting of solidarity economy actors. The goal was to bring together diverse SSE initiatives across Europe to build shared strategies and mutual support.<\/p>\n
In its early years, the network focused on mapping SSE practices, promoting peer learning, and participating in EU-level policy discussions. It collaborated with local and regional networks to establish a strong foundation.<\/p>\n
RIPESS Europe became increasingly involved in European policy advocacy, especially around sustainable development, education, and the commons. It partnered with universities, local authorities, and other networks to promote SSE in curricula and public policies.<\/p>\n
During the COVID-19 pandemic, RIPESS Europe emphasized the resilience of SSE initiatives. It supported digital transitions and addressed the role of SSE in post-pandemic recovery and the European Green Deal.<\/p>\n
The network has expanded its efforts in building cross-sector alliances (climate, food sovereignty, gender justice) and increasing youth participation. It remains active in EU consultations and the Social Economy Action Plan.<\/p>\n
RIPESS Europe includes over 40 member organizations in more than 20 countries, ranging from national networks to grassroots collectives. It continues to work toward a just, democratic, and sustainable economy rooted in solidarity, cooperation, and mutualism.<\/p>\n
