How the field of social economy questions the limits of economic activities

Capitalism is a dynamic system that is defined by an unceasing search for mastery and rationalisation of processes. To achieve this, it upsets modes of production, modes of work organization and modes of consumption, and ultimately shakes up “living together”, i.e. social justice, citizenship and democracy. This trend towards rationalization has also spread over the past three decades to the public sphere and particularly to public policies that have incorporated criteria of increasing efficiency and rationalization. In this system, there is therefore no desirable state to achieve, no stable standards or optimal size, since the norm is the endless improvement of economic rationality, which must be embodied in the GDP growth figures but also in a series of indicators that are supposed to measure this improvement in efficiency.

During the 40th Days, the Social Economy Association will award two prizes:

  • Jacques Tymen Prize: rewards the best unpublished individual works of young researchers working in the field of the social economy, of an academic nature (M2 thesis and dissertation). To find out more about the prize
  • Michèle Fardeau Award: recognizes the teaching activity of a young teacher-researcher in the field of the social economy who has been a tenured professor for three to ten years. To find out more about this award

Deadline for applications: Friday 27 March 2020
