SUMMARY:Sustainable mobility against pollution\, energy and time wastage
DESCRIPTION:Less polluted cities on a human scale\, flexible services for getting around\, innovative\, territorially integrated and efficient transport: this is sustainable and intelligent mobility\, that which increases the quality of life. \nUnfortunately\, the organisation of the ever-growing transport system and land planning often do not go hand in hand\, even in Trentino.\nDeveloping sustainable mobility projects therefore means working simultaneously on the environmental impact and on people’s quality of life. \nIs Trentino sustainable in terms of mobility? How can an area like ours be connected? How can the concept of the 15-minute city be adapted to our province? Which direction should the future of sustainable mobility take? \nWe talk about this on Thursday 22 June at 4.30 p.m. in this online talk with: \nGiuseppe Grezzi | Valencia’s mobility councillor\nJacopo Nespolo | Physicist and cycle activist\nElisa Nicoli | Eco-narrator\nModerator: Andreas Fernandez\, communication sociologist and ecologist

SUMMARY:Feminist economy congress
DESCRIPTION:Countdown to the Congress of Feminist Economics to be held for the first time in the city of Barcelona from 16 to 18 March 2023\, facilitated by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya\, in collaboration with the UOC Barcelona Open Chair in Digital Economy promoted by the Barcelona City Council\, with the aim of continuing to strengthen the link between the academic and socio-economic world of the city. \nFeminist economics has made significant contributions to date. The analysis of the feminist theory of the economic model\, and globalization; the questioning of “homo economicus”; the conception of the economic\, and the alienation of the economic system\, with putting the sustainability of life\, and the provision of needs\, at the center of the economic system; the balance between the productive and reproductive systems; the system and distribution of care; environmental sustainability; The economic democratization of business organization and gender mainstreaming in public institutions and economic policies\, among others\, are just one example. \nWithout losing sight of previous experiences and contributions\, the VIII Congress of Feminist Economics will pay special attention to the readings of the Economy from the feminist theory of technology\, the digital economy and the digitalization of life. \nSobre el congreso

SUMMARY:3rd International Conference - Social and Solidarity Economy and the Commons - Decolonizing the Solidarity Economy and Commons: Enacting the “Pluriverse”
DESCRIPTION:3rd International Conference \nSocial and Solidarity Economy and the Commons \nDecolonizing the Solidarity Economy and Commons: \nEnacting the “Pluriverse” \nVenue: Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL)\, Lisbon\, Portugal \nDate: 8th-10th November 2023 (Presential) \nOrganisers: Centre for International Studies (CEI-IUL) – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL) (Portugal); Centre for Social Studies (CES) – University of Coimbra (Portugal); ITES/UFAL -Incubator of Solidarity Economy at the Federal University of Alagoas (Brazil); Institute for Social Justice\, York St John University (UK); Institute for Ecological Economics – Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria) \n  \nCALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS \nThe main theme for the 2023 edition of the international conference “Social and Solidarity Economy and the Commons” is the emergence of a “pluriverse” in the fields of solidarity economy and the commons. This results from the aggregation of diverse epistemologies\, narratives\, and strategies for social transformation that criticise and deconstruct the downsides of modernity as a social project. For Mignolo and Escobar (2010)\, these include a “disembeddedness”\, resulting from a “marginalization of place (the here and now of social action) in the definition of social life” (p. 36). It also includes a “domination and disenchantment that came about with secularization and the predominance of instrumental reason to the normalization of life and the disciplining of populations” to “the extreme economization and technification of the world” (p. 36-7). \nWe invite researchers and practitioners to submit proposals for contributions to the conference. We aim to promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives at both theoretical\, conceptual and methodological levels. Submissions might be based on formal research or on concrete activist\, economic or public policy initiatives. \nThe conference is structured around six thematic fields: \n\nCriticisms of modernity\, post-material worldviews and their contribution to social movements and initiatives promoting solidarity economy and the commons;\nIndigenous epistemologies and popular knowledges (epistemologies of traditional peoples and communities);\nOngoing tensions between transformation and cooptation in solidarity economy and commons-based initiatives and movements (including cultish or other forms of authoritarian dynamics based on charisma\, spiritual/ideological creed or the spread of disinformation\, including those of ethnonationalist\, backlash social movements\, reactionary and anti-democratic movements);\nContributions of solidarity economy\, commons and community-led initiatives to emancipatory movements\, deepening democracy as well as civil society-led strategies of “soft power” in international\, regional and local relations;\nContributions of knowledge\, technologies and organisational forms\, developed within solidarity economy\, commons and community-led initiatives\, to biopolitical forms of social control (i.e. “technologies of the self”)\, as well as state-led strategies of “soft power” in international\, regional and local relations.\nStructural Inequalities and the challenges faced by minorities and other disadvantaged groups in the pursuit of environmental and social justice through solidarity economy and commons-based initiatives and movements. These include inequalities and challenges enhanced by the “green gentrification” that is often unintentionally caused by the presence of such initiatives\, as well as state-led urban and rural planning strategies for sustainability based on commons and commoning.\n\nAttention: For further information on each thematic field\, please consult the annexed Conference Proposal. \nSession on Research and Methods Design\nWe strongly encourage the submission of paper proposals by Ph.D. students on the methodological and ethical dimensions of research within these six fields of inquiry\, with the purpose of organising a workshop on this topic for early career scholars\, which will take place during the conference. \nWe will post regular updates about the organisation of this conference on the event’s webpage (https://ssecommons.cei.iscte-iul.pt )\, as well as send them by e-mail and through the social media accounts of CEI-IUL (Facebook and Twitter). Any questions regarding organisation of the conference or participation can be sent to  ssecommons.cei@iscte-iul.pt. \nProposal Submission Guidelines \nWe welcome the submission of the following type of proposals: \n\npaper abstracts (research papers or experience reports by practitioners or activists);\nbook presentation proposals on topics relevant to the five thematic fields of the conference.\nsession proposals containing the name of presenters\, as well as the title and complete abstract of each presentation;\n\nAll submitted proposals must have a maximum length of 800 words (including any references) and indicate which thematic field/s of the conference they address\, along with five keywords. SUMMARY:Fair Trade International Symposium 2023 : registration open until April\, 21 !
DESCRIPTION:The Fair Trade International Symposium is the leading global gathering for scholars\, practitioners and policymakers working on Fair Trade. \nThe next Fair Trade International Symposium will be hosted from 19th to-21st June 2023 at the University of Leeds in the UK. Leeds is a vibrant city in the north of England that has great transport links to the rest of the UK. \nBoth the University of Leeds and the city of Leeds have strong links to Fair Trade- we are both a Fair Trade city and university\, and Yorkshire was the first Fair Trade county. Academics at the Sustainability Research Institute and the University’s Sustainability Service and have worked together with the Fair Trade International Symposium Steering Group and local campaigners to develop the programme for FTIS. \nAt the Leeds FTIS event there will be workshops and panels taking place in person\, complemented by some online and hybrid sessions to enable the participation of people both locally and internationally. We will ensure that both the in person and online discussions are facilitated so that everyone gets a chance to participate. We are especially keen to create spaces for local campaigners and practitioners to interact. \nThere will be some fully online panels and sessions\, with opportunities for participants to discuss papers and posters and importantly a space to interact with each other via the conference platform. \nWorkshops will be face to face\, with contributions from academics\, campaigners and students. \nPlenary presentations will be hybrid\, accessible both to an online and in person audience\, and will be recorded. \nWe have agreed with the editors of the Journal of Fair Trade to produce a special issue of the journal based on papers from the Symposium. There will be a special session about this during the event.

SUMMARY:CFF SESSION - Creating Regenerative Futures with your Local Council
DESCRIPTION:Join our next Communities for Future Sessions\, Tuesday\, Feb 28th\, 16h-18h CET. \n\nShowing successful stories of CLI’s working with local councils\nSharing tools & resources\nLinking to the policy thesis in the topic\n\n  \nSpeakers: \nTwo mayors/municipal servants: \n\nPaco García\, Almocita Mayor\, Andalucia\, Spain\nJoão Dinis\, Climate Action\, Cascais\, Portugal\n\n  \n2 CLI’s: \n\nCristiano Bottone\, Kunelab\, Monteveglio\, Italy\nAmy Scaife\, HubRen\, London\, UK\n\nCommunity-led initiatives and local authorities have shown fruitful collaboration but that’s far from being the dominant interaction between them. Local initiatives often struggle to have constructive partnerships with their municipalities or counties. And vice versa: a municipality can invite community-led initiatives to their projects and fail to gain their engagement. \nThere’s never a lack of crisis situations and the strong bond between local authorities and communities has proven to be essential for the constructive response to crises. Regions with such a tight bond have done better during the pandemic than those that failed to build bridges. \nThe ECOLISE team contributed to balancing the understanding of who initiates change. Communities are the drivers of change towards sustainability\, but hundreds of local authorities are just as engaged. \nClick here to register!
